Indian boxers Gaurav Solnaki and Amit Panghal bring in more joy for the country by adding two more medals on day 11 of 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG) on Saturday. Gaurav won the gold medal in the men's flyweight (52 kilogram) category while Amit finished with the silver medal in the men's light flyweight (46-49 kg) category at Commonwealth Games 2018. These two medals come after India’s boxing legend MC Mary Kom won the gold medal kicked off the day with a gold medal wining match. India’s medal tally at CWG 2018 now moves to 46 out of which 20 are gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze. They remain in the third place in GC 2018 medal table and team standings behind Australia and England.
The 21-year-old Gaurav Solanki won a tough, fast paced, tactical battle by a split 4:1 verdict against the impressive Brendan Irvine of Northern Ireland in the Men's 52kg Final Bout. However, Amit lost 1:3 to England's Galai Yafai in the final to settle for silver medal at Oxenford Studios in Gold Coast, Australia.
Star Indian boxer M.C. Mary Kom won gold in the women's 48-kilogram category at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG). Mary defeated Kristina O'Hara of Northern Ireland by a unanimous 5:0 verdict to take the title.
After addition of three medals on Day 11 of Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games India’s medal count in boxing is six (Gold: 2, Silver: 1, Bronze: 3). The other boxers who have made a mark in CWG 2018 are Hussamuddin Mohammed wins bronze in Men's 56kg, Manoj Kumar wins bronze in Men's 69kg and Naman Tanwar wins bronze medal in Men's 91kg category.
