French figure skater Gabriella Papadakis was all over the news on Monday after suffering a wardrobe malfunction during the 2018 Winter Olympics. The 22-year-old skater had a nip slip moment during the performance with her partner Guillaume Cizeron that made headlines. They were participating in the short dance when her dress got unhooked exposing her breasts. However, Papadakis continued her performance and did not let the distraction come in the way. She rewarded for bravery with second place and the couple got selected for Tuesday's free dance.

Although with a puzzled face, she waved to both the crowd and judges before leaving the ice ground. She later described it as her worst nightmare and how she kept the show going. Papadakis received humongous support on the social media with people commending her brave act and continuing with her performance. The audience watching her performance also applauded showing their support. While we are equally glad that Papadakis did not let her hard work boil down to just a wardrobe malfunction, she is not the only one to brave horrendous experiences during Olympics.

Canadian professional snowboarder Mark McMorris's list of injuries from a catastrophic snowboard crash in the B.C. backcountry last year was severe.  Broken jaw, broken ribs, broken arm, a collapsed lung, ruptured spleen, a stable pelvic fracture is what was caused to him after a fall.  He had slammed into a tree in March 2017 while backcountry snowboarding resulting in the accident. He was then airlifted from the mountain and underwent two separate surgeries.

He had won his first bronze medal in slopestyle at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. While many predicted an end to his career, McMorris, earlier this February, less than a year after the injury recovered completely. And on returning, the 24-year-old did not settle for anything less for his next show. Marvelling everyone, his performance included a backside triple 1620, which involves three flips and four-and-a-half rotations.

While nip slips and wardrobe malfunctions do make for glaring headlines, with curiosity about it, let us not forget sports professionals who have suffered too and recovered, if not in a similar way, in some other way.

Samir Ait Said, a young French is another example of returning back to life after grave injuries. The gymnast had broken his leg at the Rio Olympics in 2016 after a horrible landing causing tibia and fibula fracture during the qualifications event of Men's Artistic Gymnastics. With sheer determination, he is now all set to perform at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
