Mumbai, August 22: India will kickstart their Paris Paralympics journey from August 28 onwards, fielding their biggest-ever contingent with 84 athletes across 12 sporting disciplines. Murlikant Petkar (Swimming)
Petkar earned India its first-ever Paralympic medal, that too gold, in the 1972 edition of the competition in men's 50 m freestyle swimming.
Devendra Jhajharia (Athletics)
Devendra secured India's first-ever athletics medal at the Paralympics, securing a gold in the javelin throw competition at the 2004 edition in Athens, with a world record throw of 62.15. He secured another gold medal in men's javelin throw 12 years later in 2016 Rio Paralympics.
Mariyappan Thangavelu (Athletics)
In the men's high jump event in 2016 Paralympics, Mariyappan secured India a gold medal in men's high jump competition.
Avani Lekhara (Shooting)
In the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo, Avani became India's first-ever medalist in para-shooting and also the first Indian woman to secure a gold medal at the Paralympics. She clinched the top spot in the Women's 10m Air Rifle SH1 competition.
Sumit Antil (Athletics)
Sumit continued India's domination at the javelin throw in the Paralympics at the Tokyo 2020 event, securing the gold medal in competition with a world-record-shattering throw of 68.55 m.
Pramod Bhagat (Badminton)
Pramod Bhagat contributed to India's medal tally of four in badminton in Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, with a gold medal in men's singles competition.
Manish Narwal (Shooting)

Krishna Nagar (Badminton)
