As Qatar prepares for FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Afghanistan, the team’s new addition - Tahsin Mohammed Jamshid achieves an individual milestone. The youngster became the first Indian-Origin footballer to be selected in the Qatar national team.
Qatar named their 29-member squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifier matches against Afghanistan and India. The side will take on Afghanistan on June 6, while India vs Qatar will be played on 11th June. Young Tahsin Mohammed Jamshid made it into the squad. With this 17-year-old Tahsin became the first Indian-origin football player to play for the Qatar National team. Born in India, Tahsin’s father, Jamshid, hails from Thalassery. His mother Shaima is from Valapattanam in the Kannur district. Jamshid represented Calicut University in football tournaments. They moved to Qatar with Tahsin. Having an interest in soccer, Tahsin was enrolled on Qatar’s Aspire Football Academy. He developed into a dribbler with his control over the ball.
On the 1st of April 2024, Tahsin Mohammed Jamshid even played in the Qatar Stars League, the first division of Qatari football. He was substituted in place of Ibrahim Diallo for al-Duhail. Tahsin was part of the Qatar U-17 team that faced the Indian youth team during their junior national team’s exposure tour in 2023. His technical abilities and skillsets earned the star a place in Qatar’s senior side. Qatar is a two-time AFC Asia Cup winner side and earning a place in such high profile side highlights Tahesin’s abilities with the ball.
