Indian footballer Sunil Chhetri has equalled Argentina's Lionel Messi's record of scoring 64 international goals. Sunil Chhetri became joint second highest goal scorer with Lionel Messi, now only behind Cristiano Ronaldo in current players list.
Sunil achieved the feat in India's match against Kenya at the Mumbai Sports Arena today. India won the game 2-0 thanks to Sunil's brace.
Chhetri helped India get the lead in the eighth minute and scored the second goal in the 29th minute that took him at par with Messi. Chhetri had come into the match with 62 goals, and his double took his tally to 64.
He managed to keep the ball low, receiving a long pass from Anas Edathodika and took it from between the two Kenyan defenders. Once he managed some control on the ball, he launched a left foot kick that went past the goalkeeper Patrick Matasi.
The 33-year-old Chhetri playing in his 102nd international match is now only behind the Portuguese great Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo has 81 goals from 150 matches in his stellar career.
