London, August 9: Atletico Madrid has rejected Manchester United's approach for their defender Diego Godin, according to Sky Sports' reports. According to the news report, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho's attempt to sign Diego Godin could not come true, as the Uruguayan centre-back signed a new deal with Atletico Madrid at the last moment.

Earlier, reports of Manchester United contacting Atletico Madrid, in a last-minute attempt to sign Diego Godin, had become a talking point just before the close of summer transfer window.

Mourinho, however, downplaying the Red Devil's chances of signing another player, said in a press conference on Thursday, "I’m not confident and the market closes today, so it is time at least for me to stop thinking about the market because the market will be closed."

The Manchester United club has recently signed Diogo Dalot, Lee Grant and the Brazilian midfielder Frederico Rodrigues a.k.a Fred.
