In the video message shared by Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson said, “Just a quick message to thank the medical staff at Macclesfield, Salford Royal and Alexandra Hospitals,” he said. “Believe me, without those people, who gave me such great care, I would not be sitting here today. Thank you from me and my family. It has made me feel so humble, as have all the messages from all over the world, wishing me the best, and the good wishes do resonate very, very strongly with me. And lastly, I’ll be back later in the season to watch the team, and in the meantime, all the best to Jose and the players,” he said in the video.
The video was shared by the official page of Manchester United with the caption, “On Saturday 5 May, the football world was rocked by the news that Sir Alex Ferguson had undergone surgery for a brain haemorrhage. Since then, the most successful manager in English football history has battled in a way only he knows how. Today, we bring you this special message.”
When the news of his surgery broke out, Manchester United issued a statement which read, “Sir Alex Ferguson has undergone emergency surgery for a brain haemorrhage. The procedure has gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to optimize his recovery. His family request privacy in this matter.” The club later added, "We will keep Sir Alex and his loved ones in our thoughts during this time, and we are united in our wish to see him make a comfortable, speedy recovery."
