What’s with the pitch invaders?! Be it cricket, tennis or football, their lust for two-minutes of fame leaves a bitter taster in ardent sports lovers’ mouth. The recent incident of pitch invasion took place at none other than 2018 FIFA World Cup final between France and Croatia when four members of Pussy Riot, a Russian feminist protest punk rock band made an uninvited dash to the ground at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. The pictures and video from the live France vs Croatia final game showed the invasion take place in presence of Russian president Vladimir Putin. Referee Nestor Pitana had to stop the play till the Punk Rock Band members were dragged off the pitch. However, Pussy Riot took the responsibility of the invasion with great pride and bragged about it via their official Twitter handle.

Pussy Riot Post a Tweet Claiming Responsibility of the Pitch Invasion!

The incident took place when France led Croatia 2-1 with poster boy Kylian Mbappe aiming to go for the third goal and from nowhere four protestors ran on the ground. Dressed in black trousers and white shirts along with black ties, the members emerged from behind the France captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris’ goal post much to the shock of everyone. Croatian centre-back Dejan Lovren tried to drag one of the four Pussy Riot members off the field but it was here when the referee halted the game and letting the security do their job.

Just two days before the final, FIFA president Gianni Infantino was showering praises about the 'smooth' manner in which the 21st edition of world cup took place in Russia. He hailed 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia to be so far the 'best World Cup ever' and thanked Russian president Putin for making it happen. It looks Gianni definitely didn't see Pussy Riot's members' coming.
