Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian has joined Italian club Parma on a four-year deal, the Premier League club confirmed on Monday. Darmian, who arrived from Torino in July 2015, endures a frustrating spell at Old Trafford and was eager to exit the club after featuring just 13 times in two years. Darmian had opened up on his desire for a return to Italy to resurrect his career and finally seems to have sealed the move. "Parma Calcio 1913 is delighted to announce the signature of Matteo Darmian (Legnano, 2/12/1989) from Manchester United on a permanent contract. Matteo Darmian Joins Parma

Darmian was signed for £12.7m from Torino by former Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal after the Italian international had impressed in the 2014/15 season. But the 29-year-old right-back failed to live up to his potential at Old Trafford and leaves them just eight shy of making 100 appearances. In his 92 games for United across all competitions, Darmian scored just once but that in a match-winning performance against Crystal Palace in his debut season in the Premier League.

He played 39 games in his first season but slowly fell down in the pecking order. He only made seven appearances for the Red Devils last season and none this term with new United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer preferring the newly signed Aaron wan Bissaka and Diego Dalot. United in its statement congratulated the full-back and wished him luck on his future. “Everyone at Manchester United would like to thank Matteo for his service and wish him all the best for the future,” said a statement from the club.
