Manchester City has the chance to make it to the quarters of the UEFA Champions League if they deliver a professional performance against Schalke at the Etihad Stadium tonight. Raheem Sterling’s heroics gave them a 3-2 win away at Schalke in the first leg which puts them in a place of real strength. With three away goals in their kitty, City can afford to be patient in their build-up and it is Schalke who have to force the issue. With three defeats in the German Bundesliga since their first game against City, Schalke will really have to give a good account themselves to challenge Manchester City.

Nicolas Otamendi is suspended for the game courtesy his red card in the first leg and Aymeric Laporte should start in the heart of defence along with John Stones. Ilkay Gundogan is also set to be picked with Fernandinho injured and both David Siva and Bernardo Silva will flank the German international in midfield. Leroy Sane who was instrumental in City’s win back in Germany should plat out wide with Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling the other forwards. Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling have been in rich goalscoring forms throughout the campaign and City look good for a quartet of trophies.

Midfielder Daniel Caligiuri has not recovered from an ankle injury and will play no part in the second leg. Breel Embolo is the preferred choice to start in the lone striker role for Schalke after his brace against  Werder Bremen at the weekend. Sascha Riether and Bastian Oczipka are the two wingbacks that are going to push forward to join the attacks. Nabil Bentaleb is akey man in midfield who is capable of scoring goals and set them up as well. Skipper Ralf Fahrmann between the posts will need to keep his calm and help his defence out against an attack-minded City team.

Schalke will get their away goal but Manchester City has enough firepower to win the match as well as the tie to advance to the next round.
