Mbappe's potential move to Real Madrid has not been accepted well by French President Emmanuel Macron. Macron has been pushing Mbappe to play in the Paris Olympics 2024 for France. The Olympic football tournament, restricted to Under-23 players with three overage players permitted per squad, does not coincide with FIFA international match dates. Therefore, clubs are not obligated to release their players for the competition. That is why, Real Madrid are not bound to release Mbappe for the multi-sport mega event although Macron's intentions are Mbappe participates in it.
According to Radio Marca, Macron was informed that Real will not allow any of their players to compete at the Olympics – as it is not a FIFA-sanctioned event. They are concerned about key men picking up injuries and want Mbappe to join their ranks at Santiago Bernabeu after his involvement at Euro 2024.
According to a report from L Equipe, Macron has been doing all he can to make Mbappe play the Olympic Games. He recently crossed paths with Madrid supremo Florentino Perez at an event staged at the Elysee Palace to celebrate FIFA’s 120th anniversary. Despite having a dinner together, reports suggest that they couldn't arrive at an agreement.
Earlier the president of France said: "We are going to do everything (to have a competitive team). I have confidence in the French and European clubs, if I may say so if you see what I mean. We have the Euro before, that's the problem. I think the clubs have to play their part if we want to have a great show." When asked if he meant Real Madrid, Macron replied, "Exactly, that’s what I meant.” Macron added that he has not discussed this with Mbappe: "I have not yet spoken to him about that, but I hope that his club, in particular, allows it. Mbappe has said he remains open to playing in the Paris Games but at the same time acknowledged that the decision ultimately rests with his club. “It's my employer who decides," he had said. "It will be a pleasure to play in them, but if my employer doesn't want to, I will support that decision. I don't think it will take much time to think about it.”
