Hannes Þór Halldórsson, who saved a goal by stopping a penalty kick by Lionel Messi in their Group D match at FIFA World Cup 2018, is more than just a goalkeeper. Halldórsson is not only a professional football player, but his Curriculum Vitae (referred to as CV mostly) boasts of another skill, i.e. of a film director. Yes, you heard it right!
The 34-year-old goalkeeper hit the headlines when he saved a penalty kick taken by none other than Lionel Messi. In a high-profile World Cup game, when the scores are already on a level, it is not so easy to soak the pressure and deliver for the team. However, the Iceland goalkeeper not only delivered it for his team by making breathing saves throughout the match, but also stopped of what could have been the reason for their loss in the day.
So far, we know how exceedingly well he saved his team from a potential match-winning goal. However, not many know that the Iceland football’s team is not just a goalkeeper. He has also worked as a film director and has been a part of a lot of films. Here, we take a look at a video clip, where Halldórsson is seen directing a commercial.

Also, the legend says that his employer, SagaFilm, has promised him his job back after he returns from his football career. Isn’t it amazing? In 2012, he directed a video which became Iceland’s official participatory entry in the Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Baku, Azerbaijan.

For the record, not many goalkeepers in the world can boast of saving a penalty kick (a potential goal) by Lionel Messi, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest of all times. However, after tonight’s match, Halldórsson has undoubtedly added his name to that list. The evenly-poised game eventually ended in a draw with the scoreline reading 1-1, after a heroic save by Iceland’s goalkeeper, err… a film director too!
