NorthEast United have entered the semifinals of the Hero Super Cup 2023 with a dominant 6-3 victory over Churchill Brothers on Wednesday, April 20. A hat-trick by Jordan Wilmar helped the Highlanders register this comfortable and dominant win and finish at the top of Group D standings. They ended with the same number of points (6) as Mumbai City, who beat Chennaiyin. But the Highlanders made it through due to a better goal difference. With this, the tournament's group stage ended with the four semifinalists being Bengaluru FC, Odisha FC, Jamshedpur FC and NorthEast United FC. FC Goa are the defending champions of this trophy, having won the 2019 edition of the tournament, beating Chennaiyin in the final. The competition did not take place for three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and this time, it has returned with a bang. The whole tournament will be held in Kerala. The Super Cup 2023 will see 11 teams from the ISL and five from the I-League.
