Fire at Flamengo Football Club’s Training Centre in Brazil Kills 10 People, Youth Players Feared to Be Among Dead

Fire engulfed Brazil's most popular football club Flamengo’s training centre, Ninho do Urubu, on Friday, killing at least ten people till reports last came in. The pre-dawn blaze in Rio de Janeiro hit a building that housed youth-category players aged 14 to 17, TV Globo said. It broadcast aerial footage of the fire, which it said had been brought under control, reports PTI.
However, none of the victims has been identified yet. Meanwhile, the injured have been shifted to nearby hospital. Reportedly, Firefighters entered the Urubu's Nest training centre in Rio de Janeiro at around 5 a.m local time. The training at the centre was cancelled on Friday and thus youth players from nearby areas went to their respective homes. Only those players living far away stayed back. "If there had been training today, the tragedy would have been much greater,” a mother of one of the athletes local media.
