On Monday night, fans thronged Mumbai Football Arena- the venue for India’s fixture against Kenya in the 2018 Intercontinental Cup. The stadium was jam-packed and fans were seen cheering for the home side. In fact, Chhetri, who was playing in his 100th international match, made it special by helping his side to a 3-0 victory.
The tickets for the match were sold out hours before and nearly 10,000 capacity stadium was full of fans who were shouting at the top of their voices to support the Indian football team. Though few seats were left empty as heavy rains lashed the Mumbai city. But despite it the atmosphere inside the stadium was electrifying. Meanwhile, after the win, the Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri took to Twitter and thanked fans for the support. “We promise you that if that’s the kind of support we get every time we play for the country, we will give our lives on the pitch. India, this night was special because we were in this together. Those in the stands shouting, and the ones at home cheering - thank you!” Chhetri tweeted.

Chhetri opened the scoring in the 68th minute and then minutes later Jeje (71st) made it 2-0 for India. The Indian skipper then in an injury-time netted another goal to seal the match on a high for his side. This was India’s second consecutive win in the four-team tourney after Stephen Constantine's wards thrashed Chinese Taipei 5-0.
With this win, India moved to the top of the points table with six points and they now take on New Zealand on Thursday. Meanwhile, it was India's 13th win in 16th games since the loss to the Kyrgyz Republic.
