The first El Clasico of the season ended in a goalless draw as neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid were able to break the deadlock in this La Liga 2019-20 encounter. The Catalan side were forced to make a last-minute change to their line-up as Sergio Busquets was unable to play due to illness and Ivan Rakitic took his place in the starting XI. The match didn’t live up to the expectations of many as it was a cagey affair and very few clear cut chances were created as the sides played out a first 0-0 draw in 17 years. Fans were not happy with the approach from both the teams and labeled it as one of the worst Clasicio’s of all time.

The El Clasico was supposed to take place on October 27, 2019 but was rescheduled due to some political unrest in Catalonia. Neither side were at their best in this game but Barcelona should have taken all three points as Jordi Alba had the clearest chance of the match but guided his effort wide of the post. Real Madrid also had the ball in the back of the net when Gareth Bale converted a Ferlan Mendy cross but the Welshman was deemed to be offside and the goal was chopped off. Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique were instrumental for their respective sides as they didn't let any attackers make a huge impact.

This draw sees both the team's level on points at the top of La Liga table but Barcelona occupy the first position because of a superior goal difference. Both teams will have a chance to put some daylight between them and the chasing pack during the weekend when Spanish champions Barcelona host Alaves while Real Madrid take on Athletic Bilbao at home.
