Whenever FC Barcelona meets Real Madrid, one simply cannot rule out fireworks on the 100-yard field. Be it Camp Nou or San Bernabeu, the clash of titans is always a moment to savour. In another El Clasico, as fans fondly call it, which took place on May 6, the match had a lot of high-voltage moments in it. With nothing to lose and Barcelona already been declared as the La Liga Champions for the 2017-18 season, both the teams left no stone unturned to define their supremacy in the Spanish league.
It was Luiz Suarez who drew first blood by scoring the first goal in the 10th minute of the game. Real Madrid’s response came only five minutes later when Cristiano Ronaldo tucked-in a goal to a brilliant header by fellow Karim Benzema.
Both the teams were overly aggressive in their approach with fouls being committed, intentionally too, on both the sides. A total of 28 fouls were committed, for which the referee had to show the yellow card for 8 times; whereas, a sole red card was shown to Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto in the fag-end of the first half.

There were a lot of chirps going around in the field throughout the match with each side not willing to give an inch to the opposition. Ivan Rakitic, Marcelo Vieira, Gareth Bale, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, and Nacho were all handed yellow cards.
Just when things were looking gloom for the 10-men Barcelona team, it was pure magic from Messi, craftily assisted by Suarez, which gave the Catalan side a lead over their rivals, in the 52nd minute. Andres Iniesta, who was playing the last El Clasico of his career, was substituted by Paulinho in the 59th minute of the match.

The match was evenly poised and it seemed like both the teams were looking for something more than just a win. However, the numbers soon caught up with Barcelona as Gareth Bale hit an equaliser in the 72nd minute.
Both Barcelona and Real Madrid made last-minute changes to their line-up but then the match ended with a 2-2 scoreline. Looking back at the match proceedings, one could easily say that the outcome of the match could have been different if only a few (timely) fouls were (rightly) called.
