There were tears shed all around the stadium by fans, tears of joy, disbelief and relief by the Argentina fans and tears of sorrow, dejection and despondency by the Nigerian fans. However, amid all the joy, there was some cause of worry for Argentina as their footballing legend, Diego Maradona, had to be attended by paramedics after Argentina's victory.
The 57-year-old, who has been struggling with health issues for some time now, needed help to move freely and could be seen struggling before he "collapsed" in the sitting area in St Petersburg Stadium.
According to media reports, he was provided immediate medical assistance by Russian paramedics and also had to be taken to a nearby hospital.
