As 2019 is coming to an end we take a look at some of the best matches played in EPL over the entire decade. The last few years in the Premier League have been where the impossible became possible with Manchester City winning their first major league title in more than 40 years while Leicester City doing the unthinkable in the 2015-16 season when against all odds the Foxes became England’s domestic champions. Year Ender 2019 La Liga Special: Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid and Other Exciting Matches in Spain's Top Division This Year.
While it was jubilation at one end there was heartbreak at the other as Liverpool fell short of their first-ever Premier League title in the 2013-14 season as a Steven Gerard slip against Chelsea and an agonizing 3-3 draw against Crystal Palace took the title out of their hands. But times have changed at Merseyside now as the Reds are dominating the English league and are the firm favourites to win the title as they are 13 points ahead of second-placed Leicester City. Arguably the most famous manager in world football, Pep Guardiola came into the Premier League and as expected dominated the division by winning two back-to-back league titles in his three and a half years in charge of Manchester City. So as the decade comes to an end, we take a look some nail-biting premier league matches. Leicester City 5-3 Manchester United, 2014
The Foxes have had some incredible performances over the years in the Premier League but very few can be as good as this comeback against the record English champions. United were cruising in the match as they were 3-1 up with half-hour to go but the match changed when Leicester were awarded a controversial penalty. David Nugent converted the penalty and then the Foxes went on to score three more without reply to win the game.
Norwich City 4-5 Liverpool, 2016
Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp have been an entertaining team to watch and this game was nothing different. A rollercoaster of a match in which the Reds came out on top because of an odd goal in nine. The home side were 3-1 ahead after 54 minutes but Liverpool turned on the style and went 4-3 up with 15 minutes to go. Sebastian Bassong thought he had secured a point for his club when he scored in the 92nd minute but Adam Lallana had other plans as the Liverpool man scored in the 95th minute.
Manchester City 2-1 Liverpool, 2019
The margin for error was very little as City and Liverpool met each other at Etihad Stadium on January 3, 2019, with Premier League crown on the line. Pep Guardiola’s men needed to win the game to keep their title hopes alive and the Reds came within 1.12cm of opening the scoring in the first half, this proved to be the turning point in the end. Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane scored on either side of Firmino’s goal to beat Liverpool on that day as well as sink their title hopes.
Newcastle United 4-4 Arsenal, 2011
This is one of the best comebacks in Premier League history if not the best. The Gunners were firmly in control of the match as they went 4-0 up before the half-hour mark. Newcastle’s spirit were lifted as Abou Diaby was sent off early in the second half. Jory Barton pulled one back for the Magpies and Arsenal went into self-destruct mode. Newcastle took advantage of this and brought the scoreline level at 4-4 as Cheick Tiote scored a belter from distance.
Manchester City 3-2 Queens Park Rangers, 2012
Arguably the most important match in the modern Premier League era and in Manchester City’s history. A match easily recognized by any football fan by the alluring Martin Tyler scream of ‘AGUEROOOOOO’ as the Argentine netted the winner in injury time to give City their first major league title in over 40 years. Man City on the final whistle of the 2011-2012 Premier League campaign took the title away from Manchester United as they finished above the Red Devils on goal difference.
