Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi rivalry have been a long-cherished one. The two have been labelled as arch-rivals for quite a long time. Last night at the UEFA Awards 2019, Cristiano Ronaldo said that they have a good relationship. He also said that it was the rivalry that makes them better players. “We shared the stage for 15 years, me and him. I don't know if it has ever happened in football, the same two guys on the same stage all the time. So it is not easy, as you know. Of course, we have a good relationship. We have not had dinner together... yet. But I hope in the future!” said CR7.

Messi too had a word or two for Ronaldo. "With Cristiano, it was a beautiful rivalry," he said. "It's nice to score goals. The goal is always to try to do things to win, before scoring. But if you can win and score, then [it's] better." Talking about the awards, Virgil van Dijk pipped Messi and Ronaldo both to walk away with the UEFA Player of the Year Award 2019.
