Hours before the kick-off against Spain, Ronaldo has accepted a two-year prison sentence, on Friday, along with a fine of 18.8 million euros, for non-payment of taxes to the Spanish government, as per Spanish media reports. The star football player, who will captain his national side Portugal at FIFA World Cup 2018, is unlikely to serve a sentence in jail, as he has no previous records against his name.

As per an El Mundo report, Ronaldo, who also plays for the Spanish club Real Madrid, is alleged to defraud the Spanish government by not paying taxes to the taxing authority, in context of his image rights, between the years 2011 to 2014.

The case was registered against his name a year ago and Ronaldo, who will be playing his first match in the 2018 FIFA WC tonight, has decided to agree to the sentence served under country’s law.

The acceptance of the sentence might save the football star from the blues as he will not need to serve any jail time. Speculations are doing the rounds that such financial issues while playing in Spanish football league - La Liga, are also one of the reasons the star Madrid player is looking for a transfer from the club.

The Portugal football team will be facing the Spanish side, on June 15,  at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Just hours before the kick-off, the news is undoubtedly going to boggle the Portugal camp.

Rival-camp Spain’s preparations also hit a roadblock, a day earlier, when their head coach Julen Lopetegui was fired from his position after he signed a deal with Real Madrid as their head coach.

The speculation of Ronaldo taking the field today is sky-high; however, one thing is for sure that the Portuguese captain is not going to serve jail anytime soon!
