Cristiano Ronaldo Accused of Rape by American Woman, Lawyers Defend Juventus Star Footballer

In a recent episode, the star Juventus forward has been alleged of rape by an American woman, who has said that the Portuguese star in 2009 had raped her. However, Ronaldo’s lawyers have announced that they will be suing the German magazine as it published ‘blatantly illegal’ accusations.
According to The Economic Times report, Ronaldo’s lawyer Christian Schertz has said that the report (in the German magazine, i.e. Der Spiegel) was ‘an inadmissible reporting of suspicions in the area of privacy’.
In his statement, Schertz said that he would seek legal compensation for Cristiano Ronaldo, from the magazine. Ronaldo’s agent sent the statement; however, there weren’t any specific answers related to the report published in Der Spiegel.
According to the magazine’s report, the alleged rape took place in June 2009 in a hotel in Las Vegas, reportedly said by Leslie Mark Stovall, who is the lawyer of the Kathryn Mayorga – the alleged victim. Both Ronaldo and Kathryn had reached an out-of-court agreement, where the victim was paid USD 375,000 and was asked never to speak about the incident.
The victim’s lawyer had informed that they had filed a civil complaint which sought to declare the non-disclosure agreement between Ronaldo and Kathryn void. As per Stovall, “The complaint is filed to hold Cristiano Ronaldo responsible within a civil court of law for the injuries he has caused Kathryn Mayorga and the consequences of those injuries.”
In his statement, Ronaldo’s lawyer said they would seek compensation from the German magazine for moral damages in an amount corresponding to the gravity of the infringement, which is probably one of the most serious violations of personal rights in recent years.
Juventus club has refused to comment anything on the matter. Cristiano Ronaldo was penalised a red card recently, which saw the former Real Madrid star get involved in a controversy. Also, his absence at FIFA Awards 2018, had left the football fraternity fuming.
