Guayaquil (Ecuador), Aug 23: Ecuador's Liga de Quito pipped Colombia's Deportivo Cali 1-0 in a first-leg match of the 2018 Copa Sudamericana here. Anderson Julio, at the 23rd minute, scored the only goal of the match in which the two teams failed numerous scoring attempts on Wednesday.

Anibal Chala, assisted by Uruguayan Gaston Rodriguez, was the first to threaten the box of Deportivo Cali at the fourth and sixth minute, reports Efe news. In the ninth minute, thanks to a precise pass from Argentine striker Jose Sand, Didier Delgado shot the ball but it was saved by goalkeeper Adrian Gabbarini. With another good pass from Sand, Nicolas Benedetti made an attempt to score in the 16th minute, but the ball went over the post.

The Argentine striker missed an opportunity to score an equalizer at the 32nd minute when he received a throw from Benedetti and shot towards the side of the goal. In the 52nd minute, goalkeeper Gabbarini managed to save a weak shot from Sand.

Benedetti made another scoring attempt at the 67th minute when Gabbarini was distracted, but his shot went past the right post of the goal. Deportivo Cali's goalkeeper Pablo Mina pulled off a good save against the ball shot by Jonathan Borja at the 88th minute.
