Chennaiyin FC vs Hyderabad ISL 2019–20: Marcelinho, Lallianzuala Chhangte & Other Players to Watch Out for in CFC vs HYD Indian Super League Clash
Both teams adorn the bottom-two places of 2019-20 Indian Super League. Chennaiyin FC are placed last in the points table with just one point from four games while Hyderabad are a place above with three points. Both teams have also lost three each of their four games with Chennaiyin drawing the other, while Hyderabad beat Kerala Blasters 2-1 for their only league win
Chennaiyin FC will still be searching for their first win of 2019-20 Indian Super League when they host Hyderabad at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on November 25 (Monday). John Gregory’s side are yet to score a goal four matches into the season and have gone over 360 minutes without finding the net in ISL 2019-20. This unfortunate stat extends to seven league matches – including the last three games from the previous season – in which Chennaiyin have failed to score. Hyderabad have no such issues and have already found the net thrice in four matches but it is at the other where Phil Brown’s men have been found lacking. They have already conceded 10 times in four games. Both teams have some great players in the form of Marcelinho, Eli Sabia, Rafael Crivellaro and Lallianzuala Chhangte and would hope to overcome their recent troubles. Both teams have also lost three each of their four games with Chennaiyin drawing the other game, while Hyderabad beat Kerala Blasters 2-1 for their only league win of this season. Incidentally, Chennaiyin’s goalless streak also parallels their winless streak and time is running out for boss John Gregory. For Pune coach Phil Brown, injuries hampered his team’s progress but with players slowly regaining fitness and form, this clash might just be the chance to kick-off a winning run. Marcelinho
He has already scored two times in four games and is slowly getting into the fiery form that made him the most devastating playmaker in Indian Super League (ISL) in the last two seasons. From scoring 10 times in 15 games for Delhi Dynamos in his first-ever season in India, Marcelinho now captains Hyderabad FC. He scored 14 goals for the now-defunct Pune City rebranded as Hyderabad FC last season but time may have finally come for him to step up deliver the title.
Eli Sabia
A true footballing journeyman, Eli Sabia has already played for 13 clubs that covers three countries, including India. 11 of those clubs come from Brazil. Eli Sabia is not as much a superstar as his defensive partner Lucian Goian, who joined Chennaiyin from Mumbai City in the summer. Goian spent his youth captaining the likes of Neymar and Oscar but at Chennai, it is Eli Sabia, who they call the defensive wall. He was one of the few bright players in an otherwise disappointing campaign last season and seems to carry on the same this season. Against Hyderabad, John Gregory will hope he delivers his best.
Lallianzuala Chhangte
One of India’s brightest future attacking talent, Lallianzuala Chhangte has really struggled to deliver the goods for his new club Chennaiyin FC after a blockbuster campaign with Delhi Dynamos. He may not have found the net as occasionally as the more experienced Jeje Lalpekhlua, who is currently out with injury. But it is his forward runs, devastating speed and ability to cut through defenders, which caught the eye of Norwegian club Viking FK. He was called for a two-week trial with Viking FK. Chhangte is yet to score for Chennaiyin and was even dropped to the bench against Bengaluru, which Chennaiyin lost 0-3. He will hope to get going against Hyderabad.
Both teams have endured similar fortunes this season but for different reasons. While Chennaiyin is suffering for a lack of form and lack of plan B, Pune are finally getting their key players back from injury. Phil Brown’s side will, however, miss chief defender Adil Khan, who suffered a knock during the international duty with the Indian national team and is out for a couple of days. The Hyderabad outfit is also missing Nestor Gordillo, who has been suspended for four months by AIFF due to a breach in contract.
