When the Indian Super League season started, defending champions Chennaiyin FC could not have ever imagined that they will be languishing at the bottom of the pile come the start of February with only five points in 14 games. They have lost their last five games in a row and nothing seems to be going the way for their John Gregory. Their match against Bengaluru FC could not have come at a more worse time for the hosts who just don’t look like playing with any rhythm at the moment. Bengaluru FC, on the other hand, will be more determined to confirm their place in the last four with a win in Chennai.
Chennaiyin FC has a fit squad for the game but Mailson Alves is out of the tie as he serves a three-game suspension. The signing of CK Vineeth was seen as an answer to their goalscoring woes but that has not materialised so far. The striker will start though along with Jeje Lalpekhlua another one of the strugglers in the team. Gregory Nelson and Raphael Augusto in midfield are players capable of turning the tide in favour of Chennaiyin but have rarely played with any freedom throughout the campaign.
Miku will start a game for Bengaluru FC after a long time after overcoming his injury. The South American frontman is a treat to watch when on the song and his link-up play with skipper Sunil Chettri is particularly good. Harmanjot Khabra and Erik Paartalu in the middle protect the back-four and love to dictate the tempo of the game. The Chennaiyin FC midfield look underweight in comparison to their Bengaluru counterpart and it is here that they will struggle. Gurpreet Singh Sandhu is probably the best keeper in the competition and would be looking for a clean sheet in the game.
Bengaluru FC will use the game against Chennayin FC to get back to winning ways after a brief stutter in the last few games.
