UCL Draw for Group Stages

Paris-Saint Germain, who were shockingly knocked out by Manchester United round-of 16 stage last season, have been paired with 13-time title holders Real Madrid, Belgian side Club Brugge and Turkish giants Galatasaray. Real won four titles in the last six seasons and hold the record of successfully defending the Champions League crown. Los Blancos, however, were knocked out of the quarter-finals by an incredible Ajax FC side last season and will be gunning to win their 14th European title this season.

Last season’s losing finalist Tottenham have been placed with former champions Bayern Munich, Olympiacos and Red Star Belgrade in Group B of the UEFA Champions League. Tottenham enjoyed an incredible campaign last season making it to their maiden final in the Champions League after overcoming Ajax in a nerve-wracking semi-final. They were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool in the final.

Meanwhile, the winners, Liverpool, received an easy draw. They were placed in Group E and will be playing Napoli, Red Bull Salzburg and Genk in the UCL group stages. Liverpool had lost to Napoli away from home before amending the defeat with a victory at home.

In the other draws, Premier League champions Manchester City will be facing Ukraine side Shakhtar Donetsk, Dinamo Zagreb and Atlanta in Group C of the Champions League. Donetsk will be looking forward to repeating their shock 3-0 victory over Man City when both these teams faced each other at the same stage in this competition last season. Serie A champions Juventus have been paired with Atletico Madrid and German club Bayern Leverkusen and Lokomotiv Moscow in Group D, while last season’s semi-finalists Ajax will play Europa League winners Chelsea, Valencia and Lille in Group H.
