It’s party time at East Bengal as they will be celebrating 100 years of their existence. But the celebrations started sooner and it was none other than Bhaichung Bhutia who kick-started the party as he led the rally. Club East Bengal came into existence Kumartuli Park, North Kolkata on August 1920 and has been around ever since. Bhaichung Bhutia not only led the rally but also lighted a grand torch. The city of Kolkata is known for the love of football and needless to say the fans from all over the city joined the celebrations. The rally which started from 10 am reached the venue at 1.00 pm covering six kilometres of a stretch. Bhutia was joined by Sukumar Samajpati, who led the club in the 1960s. The torch was carried to the venue and was installed by former player and coach Subhas Bhowmick. The pictures and video of the same were shared on social media by the club and fans. The I League 2018-19 season for the Red and Golden Brigade, ended at a low note as they fell one point short of Champions Chennai City. East Bengal had 42 points whereas Chennai had 43 points. East Bengal has not won a title since last 15 years and now pins up hopes on the players for the upcoming season. India players like Naorem Tondomba Singh, Pintu Mohata, Abhishek Ambekar, Boithang Haokip, and Lalthuammawia Ralte will be playing for the club in the upcoming season. Skipper Lalrindika Ralte has also been an extension for a couple of years.
