Inter Milan have finally agreed on a loan deal to sign Alexis Sanchez from Manchester United. Sanchez, who joined United in a player-swap deal from Arsenal in January 2018, will join Internazionale on a 10-month loan deal. The agreement, however, does not include an option to buy. The 30-year-old Chilean will now link-up with fellow United striker Romelu Lukaku and former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte. Conte was keen on signing Sanchez before the European transfer deadline on September 2, 2019 (Monday) and finally seems to have got his man. Both clubs had been negotiating a possible loan deal for the 30-year-old United misfit for several weeks now. But were deadlocked when it came to his heavy wages with Inter refusing to pay more than 30 percent of Sanchez’s weekly fees and United asking for more. But a breakthrough in the discussions saw both clubs reach an agreement for the Chilean. Sanchez is said to earn a £400,000 wage per week at Old Trafford that includes his image rights. But such a heavy pay is out of the Serie A club’s current pay structure. And therefore Inter were only ready to pay £150,000 of Sanchez’s weekly fees leaving United to pay the rest £250,000. But Old Trafford bosses refused to pay such a high fee for a player that won’t be playing for them.
But latest reports suggest that Inter have now changed their decision and are willing to pay £175,000 of Sanchez’s weekly salary. The Chilean wide-man will be travelling to San Siro for his medical on Wednesday, said a report in The Guardian. The loan deal will, therefore, bring an end to the disastrous 19-month spell for the Chilean at Old Trafford ever since signing for the Red Devils from Arsenal in January 2018.
The former Barcelona and ex-Arsenal winger had arrived at Old Trafford under huge expectations with Henrikh Mkhitaryan going to the Emirates. But Sanchez proved to be another disaster signing for the Red devils managing only five goals in two seasons and scoring just once in the Premier League.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solsjaer was keen to offload Sanchez this summer and publicly expressed his wishes to hand more opportunities to 17-year-old Mason Greenwood. With injuries and poor form hampering his progress at Old Trafford, Sanchez had fallen behind the pecking order at United and would have only played the FA Cup and Europa League had he stayed at Manchester United.
