Iran will be gifting specially designed rugs to the opponents they face in the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia, which starts from June 14 with hosts taking on Saudi Arabia. Besides the rugs, Iran will gift World Cup-themed Persian carpets to FIFA World Football Museum and host nation Russia. As per various reports, all in all, seven special carpets have been made which have unique details. One of the carpets will be handed to the Astan Quds Razavi Central Museum in the northeastern holy city of Mashhad, reports Tehran Times. Iran are placed in Group B alongside Morocco, Portugal and Spain. The rugs for each of Iran’s opponents bears the teams’ respective logos. Iran opens their 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign against Morocco at the Saint Petersburg Stadium on June 15. They next face Spain and Portugal on June 20 and June 25 respectively.

The carpets and rugs have been under the supervision of Hossein Kazemi-Hamed. Reportedly, the specially designed carpets took six and a half months to be completed. “We started weaving these rugs six months and 15 days ago. Two shifts of eight people, that is 16 people put together worked on them. The fabric is 80 percent silk.” carpet provider Hamed Heydari was quoted as saying by RT.

Hossein Kazemi-Hamed says the aim of weaving these carpets is to introduce the genuine Iranian culture at an international level. He hopes that the entire world will see these carpets.
