Ahead of their team’s semi-finals against England, Croatian fans unfurled a huge flag Triumfalnaya Square in Moscow. Reason? The Croatian fans wanted to thank hosts- Russia, thus unfurled a huge flag which read, “Thank You Russia.” Team Croatia also did not disappoint their fans and played their hearts out by defeating England by 2-1 Ivan Perisic and Mario Mandzuic scored the goals for the team.

It was Kieran Trippier who gave a flying start to the team by scoring a goal at the 5th minute. Post which, Ivan Perisic chipped in with a goal at the 68th minute scoring an equaliser. At the 109th minute, Mario Mandzuic gave a lead to the team by scoring another goal. Croatia was touted as an underdog for the match as the football pundits favoured the English team. Post their win, Luka Modric slammed them and said, “English journalists, pundits from television, they underestimated Croatia tonight and that was a huge mistake. All these words from them we take, we were reading and we were saying 'ok, today we will see who will be tired.”
Croatian legend Davor Suker also congratulated the team and said, "We all thought that after 1998 that this would not happen, but it did happen and I sincerely congratulate all the boys, and the coach. It's an honour for all the fans, from San Diego to Australia, a great honour for everyone. This is unreal. Croatia is in the World Cup final!"
