Group C of 2018 FIFA World Cup points table has France on the top after they registered their second consecutive win over Peru on Thursday. The win now take France’s tally to six points as they have qualified for the next round following 1-0 win over Peru. Meanwhile, Australia kept their chances alive with a 1-1 draw against Denmark. Peru, however, are out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and are bottom-placed.

France and their once in a lifetime crop of talented footballers have what it takes to be the champions and how they go about this task will be very intriguing. They are placed in Group C of the FIFA World Cup 2018 along with Denmark, Australia and Peru; all three of them capable of producing football that can earn them points. The way the teams finish barring France finish in the points table is tough to predict, but the Les Bleus is destined to win the group.

France drew their game against a depleted USA side which somewhat spoiled their otherwise impressive record in the warm-up games. The combinational play of Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud and Antoine Griezmann was artistic at times, and coach Didier Deschamps knows if France is to go the distance, his front three has to be in top gear. Paul Pogba, considered by many to be one of the best young midfielders in the game right now but lacking consistency was given a lot of time on the pitch but looked off colour. He may well have to settle for a place on the bench.

The Australians have an ageing squad but one that has the calibre to grind out results in tough conditions. Their forwards particularly Andrew Nabbout have pace and strength and the man who makes them tick, Aaron Mooy sits on the base of the midfield to open up the opposition. Winger Mathew Leckie is also one of the standout performers and can be crucial as Australians look to qualify for the next round for the first time since 2006.

Peru and Denmark both have one thing in common-their dependence on one player to lift the squad whether it is in terms of goals scored or just chances created. For Peru, it is their skipper Paolo Guerrero, and in Denmark’s case, it is Christian Eriksen. Both these players have been credited with getting their nations to the World Cup, and they will again have a majority of the workload when the crunch matches come thick and fast. The absence of Nicklas Bendtner, their current top scorer with 30 goals, will have a significant impact although he is also one of the most ridiculed players in the game.

It is a three-way competition for who finishes second in the group; hence the matches of this group are all hard to miss. There will be goals, and a lot of chances created as the team will not hold back in their assault particularly France who will go about their task in a marksman like precision.
