With FIFA World Cup 2018 to kick off on June 14, Germany head coach Joachim Low has slapped a sex ban on his players for the duration of the World Cup in Russia. Apart from sex, he has also banned use of any social media interaction. Germany will be looking to be first team to defend the title since Brazil as they annexed the cup in 1958 to 1962.
The German coach does not want WAGS (Wives and Girlfriends) near his players as they prepare to defend the title they won four years ago in Brazil. Low in speaking to the media said that his players are very aware of the behavioural rules set in the Germany camp. “The boys are very familiar with our behavioural rules. They know what our ambitions are. Every player is a piece of a puzzle. The team is more important that individuals,” said the hardliner German coach.
Players who wish to see their wives or children will have to seek for special permission from the coach and must have a concrete reason before such a request is permitted. Low has also banned the use of Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram or any form of social media during the tournament. According to Italian newspaper Gazetta della Sports, the strict measures are because ‘the team is more important than the ego’.
However, the coach will however allow alcohol consumption in the camp for players to refresh and boost their morale and team spirit but no drinking in excess. Social media networking is seen as an unnecessary distraction for the team during the World Cup. Period.
