Team Spain crashed out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup earlier this weekend. They lost to the hosts Russia by 4-3 in a penalty shootout and captain Sergio Ramos was left in tears after the shocking result. Shortly after their ouster from the World Cup, Spanish football star Andre Iniesta announced his retirement from the national side.
While addressing the press he said, “Sometimes the endings are not as one dreams. It is the saddest day of my career." Post this, the captain of Spain Sergio Ramos paid tribute to the Barcelona player. He took to social media and shared a couple of pictures where he spoke about his season with Real Madrid and Zidane. He also wished that Andre Iniesta could get a better farewell. He captioned the first picture, “Today our season ends and it's time to look back on the season as a whole. Don't think we don't analyse things and that we're not conscious of our mistakes and of what we got right. We are, and all the more because of the difference it makes to all of you who follow us and support us. We live everything with passion and with responsibility. With @realmadrid it was a season with lows, that is certainly true, but also one great high. In domestic competitions we were unsuccessful, but we conquered Europe winning the @Championsleague for the third year in a row, which was an historic achievement. @Zidane’s goodbye was a bitter way to follow it up but everyone is free to make their own decisions. We'll be forever thankful to our coach.”
Here’s the second picture.
Ramos also promised that he will play for Spain once again in 2022. “It hurts a lot but nobody should doubt that we'll be back to try again and again. Some will go and others will come along but we'll all defend this shirt with passion and respect. In defeat I feel even more proud of being Spanish,” read his Twitter post.
