Rishi Tej is definitely on cloud nine. The 10-year old from Bangalore became the first Indian to become be the ball boy for the match Belgium-Panama that happened yesterday in Sochi at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Team Belgium thrashed the first-time World Cup contenders by 3-0. Rishi carried the ball before the match. Two Indians were selected for being designated Official Match Ball Carriers (OMBC) for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia from India. Tamil Nadu’s Nathania John Kandathil will also be carrying the ball for the match between Brazil and Costa Rica which is scheduled to happen on June 22, 2018.
It is quite an exciting time ahead for both the kids. While speaking to India Today, Rishi said, “I am so excited, you cannot measure it even. It is like I am still dreaming. In Russia, I want to live every moment. During the match, I just don't want to enjoy but analyse how they play.” Tamil Nadu’s Nathania made it to the top after beating 50 boys. The 11-year-old from Tamil Nadu took everyone with awe owing to her football skills.
"We had to upload a video in which we had to be in action for 30 seconds. Out of 1500 kids, I got shortlisted to 50, then to last six and now final two. The thought of walking on to the pitch is not affecting me too much right now. I am definitely excited but I don't want to overdo it. I don't know if I would get the autographs but the vision will always stay with me," said Nathania. Under the FIFA OMBC programme, 64 kids from different countries get an opportunity to walk adjacent to the football greats.
