Dutee Chand has scripted history as she became the only woman track and field athlete to have clinched a gold medal at the World Universiade held in Italy. The 23-year-old clocked 11.32 seconds to win the race. The Indian sprinter was running in lane number four and stood first out of the eight athletes running the race. Del Ponte from Switzerland came second clocking 11.33 seconds whereas Germany’s Lisa KwaYie stood third in the race. She took 11.39 seconds to come third in the event. During Asian Championship 2018, Dutee Chand has clinched a silver medal in 100 m and 400 m each. She now becomes the second woman athlete to Indian sprinter to win a gold in a global event after Hima Das. After winning the golden glory, Dutee shared a picture of the medal and had an interesting caption to the snap. “Pull me down, I will come back stronger!,” read the caption of the photo.

Dutee Chand is a student at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology. The star sprinter was in the news for being in a relationship with a girl. With this performance, Dutee Chand will hope to qualify for the World Championships to be held in Doha in September-October.
