Dutee Chand also happens to be India’s third woman athlete to ever qualify in the Summer Olympics, by qualifying at Rio Olympics 2016. After her medal-winning performances at Asian Games 2018, she would now be shifting her focus to Tokyo 2020.
India’s Silver medallist at Asian Games 2018, Dutee Chand was felicitated by Odisha Governor, on Monday. Chand who won two medals at Asiad said that after her medal-winning performances at Asian Games, she would now be shifting her focus to Olympics. The Indian sprint-racer is now eyeing glory at the next Olympics!
Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal hosted a ceremony, on Monday, where not only Dutee Chand but also her parents were felicitated. Speaking at the event, Chand said, “I would like to thank him. Had to struggle a lot in the last four years, but still, I got two medals. Now I'll focus on training so that I get medals in Olympics too.”

The Indian athlete won two Silver medals in athletics, i.e. in Women’s 100m and Women’s 200m. In both the track events, the sprinter missed the Gold medal finish by a whisker.

However, that doesn’t lessen the importance of her victory as Chand’s medals in the event is first for India in the last 20 years. The last time an Indian woman won the Silver medal in 100m event was in 1998.
Chand also happens to be India’s third woman athlete to ever qualify in the Summer Olympics, by qualifying at Rio Olympics 2016. However, her run of 11.69s runs in the preliminary round saw her fail to be eligible in the next round. At Asian Games 2018, she clocked 11.32s to win the Silver medal. It will be interesting to see her prospects for the Summer Olympics, which will be held in Tokyo.
India put on a great show at the recently concluded Asian Games. The Indian contingent won 17 medals in Athletics and 69 overall. In them, India won 15 Gold, 24 Silver, and 30 Bronze medals and was placed 8th in the medal tally of 2018 Asian Games.
