India won a couple of medals on Day 7 as Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinappa won a Bronze medal in their respective Women Singles Squash events at Asian Games 2018. In her semi-finals match against David Nicol Ann, the Pallikal lost the game 3-0. Also, fellow mate Chinappa lost the match 2-1 to her Malaysian opponent, Subramaniam Sivasangari.
It seemed like Pallikal would increase India’s gold medal count in the medal as she won her Round of 16 match, a day before. She had defeated Japan’s Misaki Kobay comprehensively 3-0 (11-5, 11-6, 11-8) in the one-sided affair.
In another quarter-final match too, Joshna Chinappa went past Hong Kong’s Joey-Chan Ho-ling with a set down in the game. Victory didn’t come easy as the ace Indian squash player won the match 3-1 (11-5, 12-10, 5-11,12-10).
With the twin defeats, the Indian challenge ends in women’s Squash Singles at Asian Games. As for Men’s singles competition, Saurav Ghosal won his Round of 16 match and is lined-up for his semi-final match, later in the day.
With two more Bronze medals, India’s medal count has increased to 26, of which they have won 6 Gold, 5 Silver, and 15 Bronze. With 26 medals in its tally, the Indian team is placed on 9th position in the latest medal tally and current country-wise standings at Asian Games 2018!
