India's Schedule at Commonwealth Games 2018

Another day at Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2018, another Gold medal for India. It seems that the weightlifters in the Indian contingent have taken the burden on themselves to push India ahead in the medal tally. Day 3 of the 2018 CWG saw young Venkat Rahul Ragala and veteran Satish Kumar Sivalingam ensured India had another golden day.

The 21-year-old RV Rahul won a Gold medal in the 85 Kgs category. He finished on the top spot as he lifted a total of 338 Kgs in two lifts – 151 Kgs in snatch and 187 in clean & jerk. Whereas Satish won the Gold medal in the 77 Kgs category. He finished on the top spot as he lifted a total of 317 Kgs in two lifts – 144 Kgs in snatch and 173 Kgs in clean and jerk. Satish went to become the only Indian to defend his Gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Day 3 also saw other athletes participating in several other sporting events. Boxers Sarita Devi and Manoj Kumar entered the quarter-finals in 60Kgs and 69 Kgs categories respectively. However, Indian men hockey team had an off-day as they were held on the 2-2 draw against Pakistan. Joshna Chinappa’s defeat in Squash’s quarter-finals also hurt India’s chances of a potential medal-event.

The Indian camp ended the Day 3 of the Gold Coast Games 2018 on a positive note. However, a lot of prominent players will perform on the crucial Day 4. Individual events will see Mary Kom and Heena Sidhu participate, whereas team events will see Indian women hockey team compete on Sunday.
