Mumbai, April 05: India, on Thursday, won a Gold and a Silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2018. The opening day of the CWG Games 2018 saw Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and Gururaja secure first and second spots in their respective categories.

Mirabai Chanu, World Champion and CWG record holder, won the Gold Medal stupendously. With every lift, Chanu broke a new record. In all of her six lifts, Chanu broke six records and won the Gold medal in Women’s 48 kg. weightlifting category. The combined effort (of 196 kgs.), saw her breaking her own previous best (of 194 kgs.).

Earlier in the day, it was Gururaja who opened India’s account at Gold Coast 2018. The weightlifter won a silver medal in the Men’s 56 Kg category, losing out the Gold to Malaysia's Muhammad Azroy Hazalwa.
