While the day turned out to be exceptional for the weightlifters – with Sanjita Chanu striking Gold and Deepak Lather getting a Bronze medal for India, the squash contingent had a mixed bag of luck. On one hand, where Joshna Chinappa advanced to the quarterfinals of the contest, Dipika Pallikal crashed out of CWG 2018 by bowing to Alison Waters of England.

Joshna played against the 57th ranked Australian opponent Tamika Saxby and took merely 22 minutes to defeat her. She thrashed the Australian by 3-0 (11-6, 11-8, 11-4) and looked extremely comfortable throughout the match. On the other hand, Dipika Pallikal lost to Alison Waters of England 0-3 (3-11, 6-11, 2-11) in the 20-minute match. Dipika was totally outplayed by the player from England and she could only score a couple of points in the last game.

Yesterday, Saurav Ghosal and Harinder Pal Sandhu also crashed out of the Commonwealth Games 2018. Saurav Ghoshal lost to Jamaica's Christopher Binnie in the men's singles second round of the Commonwealth Games. Ghosal squandered a two-game lead to go down to World No. 65 Binnie 11-5, 11-7, 8-11, 9-11, 10-12.

Post losing the match, Saurav tweeted, “I don’t have words to explain my loss @GC2018 today! ‘Shattered’ would be a good start. I’m sorry to everyone who has supported me over the last year. I’m sorry to India for not fulfilling their hopes from me. I’m just sorry!” His colleague, Harinder Pal Sandhu, could not survive against the unseeded Malaysian Ivan Yuen.
