CWG 2018: Indian Men's Hockey Team Beat Wales by 4-3

After finishing with the draw against their arch-rivals Pakistan, the Indian Men Hockey team finally registered their first victory against Wales at the Commonwealth Games 2018.

After finishing with the draw against their arch-rivals Pakistan, the Indian Men's Hockey team finally registered their first victory against Wales at the Commonwealth Games 2018. The men’s hockey team played in B Group against Wales today at the Gold Coast and won the nerve-wrecking contest taking the lead of 4-3. The contest looked extremely tough on paper.

The first goal was scored by Dilpreet Singh. However, the opponents too were quick enough to score a goal for Wales. Harmanpreet Singh carried his form in this match as well and score the second goal of the CWG 2018 and once again Gareth Furlong scored a goal in the 44th minute. At one point in time, it actually looked India would once again end up with a draw but, Rupinder Pal Singh came to the rescue and scored in 57th minute. Wales, however, equalized the score by 3-3 but SV Sunil held the nerves and led India to 4-3.

Meanwhile, even the women’s team stunned Olympic champs England earlier today at the Commonwealth Games by beating them 21 in third Pool A match. Gurjit Kaur and Navneet Kaur were the ones to score the goals for India. Meanwhile, the Indians have had a good day at the Commonwealth Games.

Shooter Ravi Kumar clinched a bronze medal in Men’s 10m Air Rifle Event with 224.1 points, Punam Yadav bagged a gold medal and lifted combined total of 222kg - 100kg snatch and 122kg clean and jerk. Also, Manu Bhaker added another Gold medal and Heena Sidhu bagged a Silver medal in Women's 10m Air Pistol Event. Manu finished with a score of 240.9, while Heena bagged 234.0 points. With weightlifter Vikas Thakur clinching a bronze medal, India now has 11 medals to its tally (6 Gold, 2 Silver, 3 Bronze)
