The day 2 of the Commonwealth Games 2018 is bringing good news for India. A while ago, weightlifter Sanjita Chanu and Deepak Lather stuck gold and bronze respectively for the country. After losing to Wales on Thursday, the Indian Women’s Hockey team has beaten Malaysia by 4-1 in a Group A match of the women’s hockey competition.
India’s defender Gujit Kaur converted a couple of penalty corners in 6th and 39th minute. Rani Rampal and Lalremsiami's field goals in the 56th and 59th minute respectively have helped India win comprehensively against Malaysia. Naurini Rashid, the defender from Malaysia was the only one to score a goal for their country. Yesterday, India lost To Wales by 2-3 in their campaign opener of the CWG.
Talking about the other sports, 18-year-old weightlifter Deepak Lather bagged a Bronze Medal for India at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018 by lifting 295 kgs. Weightlifter Sanjita Chanu has won the gold medal for India on the Day 2 of Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. The 24-year-old continued India weightlifting contingent’s dream run after she lifted a combined 192 kg (84 kg in snatch and 108 kg in clean and jerk) in the 53-kg category. Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu joined fellow weightlifter from Manipur Mirabai Chanu who on the opening day of Commonwealth Games 2018 had won the gold in the women’s 48-kg category.
With P Gururaja’s silver medal in the men's 56-kg category, India’s medal tally is a total of three including 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze. Sanjita Chanu’s gold medal takes India to the third position in GC 2018 medal standings. Coming back to Indian hockey team, they will next face England on April 8.
