CWG 2018: Deepak Lather Wins Bronze Medal For India in 69 KG Category
Deepak Lather bagged a Bronze Medal for India at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018.
After weightlifter Sanjita Chanu clinching a gold medal this morning, 18-year-old Deepak Lather bagged a Bronze Medal for India at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018. Deepak lifted 295 kgs and finished third in the category. Samoa’s Vaipava Ioane could have been one of one of the medalists as he was the last one to lift in the cleand and jerk round.
Deepak bagged three medals for India in Commonwealth Games 2017. Back then he stuck Gold in 69 kg category, along with a bronze in senior’s men section, with a total weight of 295 kg (138kg +157kg). The youngster came into limelight after he made a national record at the age of 15.
In the morning, Weightlifter Sanjita Chanu has won the gold medal for India on the Day 2 of Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. The 24-year-old continued India weightlifting contingent’s dream run after she lifted a combined 192 kg (84 kg in snatch and 108 kg in clean and jerk) in the 53-kg category. Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu joined fellow weightlifter from Manipur Mirabai Chanu who on the opening day of Commonwealth Games 2018 had won the gold in the women’s 48-kg category. With P Gururaja’s silver medal in the men's 56-kg category, India’s medal tally is a total of three including 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 0 Bronze. Sanjita Chanu’s gold medal takes India to the third position in GC 2018 medal standings.
Like Mirabai, Sanjita also shattered record on her way to bag the gold in 21st Commonwealth Games 2018. She created a new Commonwealth Games record by lifting 84 kg in snatch. Her second attempt of 108 kg in clean and jerk sealed the deal for her and India to enjoy another golden moment in CWG 2018.
