New Delhi, Mar 25: Cricketer Mohammed Shami met a road accident while travelling from Dehradun to Delhi on Sunday. The paceman ended up sustaining minor injuries on his head.

The accident was reportedly caused after Shami's car collided with a truck, early in the morning at 5:30 am.

Following the accident, he was taken to a local medical facility in Dehradun. "He got stitches after getting head injuries. Currently, he is taking rest in Dehradun," news agency ANI reported.

Shami, 28, has been featured in several international bouts of the Indian side over the past four years. The right-arm fast, however, faced a blow earlier in the month, when the BCCI refrained from renewing his contract owing to the allegations of match-fixing levelled by his wife Hasin Jahan.

Jahan not only accused Shami of being linked to bookies and touts for fixing domestic and international matches, she also levelled charges of "immoral character", extramarital affairs and adultery against him.

The FIR registered with the Kolkata Police books Shami under the IPC sections of 498A (cruelty to women by their husbands as well as relatives), 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation). The charges of adultery and extramarital affair are being probed.
