Just a few days after Sanju Samson’s double century, Mumbai’s Yashasvi Jaiswal also registers a double-ton and became the seventh Indian to cross the 200-mark in List- A cricket. The 17-year old batsman has been delivering consistently in the Indian domestic circuit and with this knock, the southpaw has certainly knocked the doors of the senior team. The opener achieved the feat against Jharkhand in the group stage of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019. Opening the batting for Mumbai, Jaiswal went after the bowlers from the outset and rained fours and sixes all over the KSCA Cricket Ground.
The left-handed batsman smashed the likes of Varun Aaron and Shahbaz Nadeem during the course of his magnificent innings. The youngster scored 203 runs off 154 deliveries and his innings comprised 17 boundaries and 12 massive sixes. Jaiswal finally fell prey to Vivekanand Tiwari in the last over of the innings. However, the damage was done till the time of his dismissal as Mumbai mustered a massive score of 358/3 in the first innings. A few days back, Kerela’s batsman Sanju Samson also scored a double-ton against Goa in the same venue. Samson scored 212 of mere 129 deliveries and guided his team to a 104-run victory.
Scoring a double-century in a 50-over game is certainly not a cakewalk. So, the innings by the youngster will be in the discussion for a long time. With the IPL auctions just a couple of months away, the left-handed batsman might well get big bids. Along with that, the Indian selectors will also focus on Jaiswal’s performance. With the ICC World T20 just one year away in time, some more good knocks and successful stint in IPL 2020 might well earn Jaiswal a berth in the Indian team.
