Green and gold is the colour of Australia’s limited-overs jerseys. “Various Australian landmarks have been lighting up in support of our Australian Women's Cricket Team winning the Ashes,” said a post from Cricket Australia on its social media channels. Australian women’s team beat England by 93 runs in the first T20 to take a 10-2 lead in the Ashes. They had already clean-swept the ODI series, while the one-off Test match ended in a draw.

Australia posted a record T20 total on board after winning the toss and opting to bat record. Powered by skipper Meg Lanning’s record 133 runs from just 63 deliveries, Australia posted 226/3 in 20 overs. Lanning’s milestone innings comprised of 17 fours and 7 sixes to the fence. She was well supported by opener Beth Mooney (54) after Alyssa Healy was removed in the very first over. Lanning and Mooney together stitched a 134-run partnership in just 11 overs to take Australia to a record total on board.

Melbourne Turns Green

England’s bowlers were thrashed all around the park with Anya Shrubsole receiving special treatment. She went for 50 runs in just three overs. Katherine Brunt and Sophie Ecclestone were also on the receiving end of some brutal hits from Lanning.

Chasing 227, England really never got going after losing both of their openers Danielle Wyatt and Amy Jones for four-ball ducks. Lauren Winfield top-scored for them with 33 runs before Megan Schutt send her back. Schutt also took the final wicket as England were finished at 133/9 in 20 overs.

International Cricket Council (ICC) also took to Twitter to congratulate Australia women’s cricket team on its Ashes Triumph. “Melbourne have recognised Australia's Women's Ashes victory in style, illuminating various landmarks in green and gold," tweeted the top cricket body. Australia and England next face each other in the second T20 on Sunday.
