Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement from all forms of cricket by posting an emotional video message on his official social media handle. Dhawan was among the goto batsmen for the Indian cricket team who was known for his aggressive playing style and elegant shots. From playing cover drive to uppercut, Dhawan almost had every shot under his back. Apart from being successful in international cricket, the left-handed batter has played for several Indian Premier League franchises such as Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians and many more. While Dhawan announced that he will not play any domestic competition or international cricket match, there is still a question mark whether he will be available to play in the cash-rich league or not. Will Shikhar Dhawan Feature in Indian Premier League?
In his video message, Shikhar Dhawan clearly mentioned that he is retiring from international and domestic cricket. The Indian Premier League is also one of the domestic T20 competitions of the BCCI which also marks the fact that Dhawan also ended his 17-year-old cash-rich league career. Dhawan said in his video message, Namaste everyone! Today I am standing at such a juncture in my career from where I can only cherish memories that I made as a player. I always wanted to represent Team India and it happened. I want to thank my family, and my childhood coach Tarek Sinha and Madan Sharma who taught me the basics of the sport. I also want to thank Team India, whom I represented all these years and the fans who loved me with all their heart."
"It's important to turn the page to move forward in life and that's why I am announcing my retirement from international and domestic cricket. I am leaving with peace in my heart that I played so long for India. I've told myself don't feel sad that you won't play for India anymore, but feel happy that you played for the country", he added. Shikhar Dhawan moved to the Deccan Chargers in 2011 after playing for the Mumbai Indians in 2009 and 2010. After representing Chargers from 2011-2012, he continued playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2013 to 2018. He later joined Delhi Capitals in 2019 and was the part of the franchise until 2021. Punjab Kings added him to their squad in 2022, and since he was leading the side until IPL 2024.
