Will India Play Tri-Series in Sri Lanka Amid Emergency? Rajeev Shukla Urges Security for Team India
India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh were the participating teams in the ongoing Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka. With ‘Emergency’ being imposed in the country, it seems doubtful that the T20 series will take place.
Rajeev Shukla, current IPL Chairman, tweeted about ‘Emergency’ being imposed in Sri Lanka on March 6, 2018. Rajeev Shukla, also a member of Rajya Sabha, has urged the government of India to ensure the safety of players in the island nation.
India is scheduled to play against Sri Lanka in the Nidahas Trophy series’ opener at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, later today.
Posting a message on his Twitter account, Rajeev Shukla said, “Emergency has been imposed in Sri Lanka after ethnic violence. Hope cricket match takes place. Urging Govt. of India to ensure protection for Indian players.” Read his tweet here:
Earlier today, Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena and his Cabinet of ministers had imposed the State of Emergency in the country for 10 days. As there were reports of communal violence between Buddhists and Muslim groups in parts of Sri Lanka, the decision was arrived at to keep the country in order. Minister S.B. Dissanayake also announced that whether the period of emergency has to be extended or not will be decided at the end of 10 days.

No cricket board – Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), or Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) – of the participating teams has made any official announcement regarding the same. The tournament is scheduled to begin from March 6, and the final slated to be played on March 18.
