Earlier today, Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena and his Cabinet of ministers had imposed the State of Emergency in the country for 10 days. As there were reports of communal violence between Buddhists and Muslim groups in parts of Sri Lanka, the decision was arrived at to keep the country in order. Minister S.B. Dissanayake also announced that whether the period of emergency has to be extended or not will be decided at the end of 10 days.

India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh were the participating teams in the ongoing Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka. With ‘Emergency’ being imposed in the country, it seems doubtful that the T20 series will take place. No cricket board – Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), or Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) – of the participating teams has made any official announcement regarding the same. The tournament is scheduled to begin from March 6, and the final slated to be played on March 18.
