Shakib Al Hasan was elected as the MP of the Awami League recently. During the unrest of Bangladesh, the Awami League leaders faced revolt from the public and was forced to leave the country or go underground. Amidst the unrest, an FIR was lodged against Shakib Al Hasan for a murder. He was sent summoning notice during the Pakistan series too. Shakib was set to play the first Test of the ongoing series against South Africa, at Mirpur, which was going to be his last. He was also selected in the Bangladesh squad for the Test series. A day after that, the Mirpur Chhatra Janata, a student organisation, wrote to the BCB, demanding Shakib be dropped. Shakib subsequently told ESPNcricinfo: “I am not sure where I am going next, but it is almost sure that I am not going home”. Sports adviser Asif Bhuiyan confirmed that he had told Shakib not to travel to Bangladesh because of security concerns. he day after that, the selectors replaced Shakib with Hasan Murad in the squad. It is not yet confirmed whether Shakib will play any retirement Test matches for Bangladesh in future.
