Why are there three stars on the Indian cricket team's jersey during the ODI series against Sri Lanka? Well, that might be a question which arises in the minds of fans who are watching the Men in Blue in action in the first ODI of the three-match series against Charith Asalanka and co. Team India has had a great time on this white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, defeating the hosts 3-0 in the T20Is. Now, the action shifts to the 50-over format, where the Indian cricket team would look to continue its dominance. Interestingly, this is India's first ODI since the heartbreaking defeat to Australia in the final of the 2023 World Cup. Team India Cricketers Wear Black Armbands During IND vs SL 1st ODI 2024 Match in Honour of Late Anshuman Gaekwad.

The Men in Blue, however, have been able to put behind the disappointment of the ODI World Cup loss by winning the T20 World Cup 2024 in June. Why Are There Three Stars on Team India’s Jersey for ODI Series Against Sri Lanka?

The Indian cricket team is wearing a jersey with three stars just above the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) logo on the left side. One might think that the three stars are to denote India's successful campaigns at the 1983 World Cup, 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy. But India had also won the Champions Trophy in 2002, sharing the title with Sri Lanka.  However, there has been no official confirmation from the BCCI yet. India's previous ODI jersey had three stars, denoting the success of the Men in Blue in 1983, 2007 T20 and 2011 ODI World Cups.

Interest in the stars on the Indian cricket team's jersey grew, especially after the young side led by Shubman Gill in the T20I series wore one with just one star instead of two, despite the Men in Blue winning the T20 World Cup 2024 title just days ago. However, it was a logistic issue as the jerseys used for the series were printed before the T20 World Cup title win.
